| Dragon Boat Racing came to the Portland Rose Festival from our sister city Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1989. Since then, the number of teams competing has grown from 31 to over 90 and it is estimated that as many as 10,000 spectators attend each year. A crew consists of sixteen paddlers, a steersman, a caller and a flagcatcher. Synopsys competes in the mixed category which requires that eight paddlers be men and eight be women. | ![]() Raceday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park |
